Books Worth Reading

Ideas Worth Keeping.

Lozano Books is an independent publishing house based in Lockhart, Texas, devoted to books that reward intellectual curiosity, encourage thoughtful conversation, and remain worth reading long after their first publication.

Our publishing program encompasses Orthodox Christian theology, philosophy, history, fiction, drama, and general nonfiction. Through a family of distinctive imprints, we bring together different intellectual and literary traditions under one shared commitment: to publish works of substance, character, and enduring value.

We believe that books should do more than occupy a moment. At their best, they enlarge our understanding, challenge comfortable assumptions, preserve worthwhile traditions, and introduce us to ideas and experiences we might never otherwise encounter. They deserve to be written with care, edited with judgment, and presented with respect for the reader.

A Publishing House of Distinctive Imprints

A publishing house need not speak with only one voice. Indeed, some of the most interesting conversations begin when different disciplines, traditions, and literary forms are brought into one another's company.

Lozano Books is organized as a family of distinctive imprints, each with its own editorial interests and character. Theophoros Press is devoted to Eastern Orthodox Christianity; BarrelLamp Press to philosophy and the examined life; Marengo-Traveller Press to history and general nonfiction; Walsingham-Marlowe Press to fiction and the literary imagination; and Volpone-Mosca Press to drama and the performing arts.

These distinctions allow each imprint to develop its own identity while benefiting from the common editorial standards and publishing resources of Lozano Books. Whether a book explores an ancient theological controversy, the collapse of a republic, a philosophical problem, or the complexities of human character, our aim remains the same: to give serious attention to subjects worth exploring and to readers willing to explore them.

We believe that intellectual curiosity need not respect the boundaries of academic departments, and that a publishing house should be as hospitable to an unexpected question as it is to a familiar answer.

About the Founder

Lozano Books was founded by Ryan Michael Lozano, an author, educator, and Orthodox Christian priest whose work has long centered on the questions that make books worth writing in the first place: what we believe, how we think, what history can teach us, and what it means to live a thoughtful and examined life.

With more than two decades of experience teaching philosophy and the humanities, Lozano brings to publishing an appreciation for scholarship that is rigorous without being inaccessible, serious without being solemn, and sufficiently curious to follow an interesting question wherever it may lead.

Lozano Books grew out of that same conviction: that worthwhile ideas deserve careful expression, that readers deserve to be taken seriously, and that a good book should feel rather less like a lecture than an engaging conversation with someone who has spent a considerable amount of time thinking about the subject.

An Invitation to Explore

The pleasure of a good book lies partly in discovering where it will take us. Sometimes it introduces us to an unfamiliar world; sometimes it helps us see our own rather differently. And occasionally, if we are fortunate, it leaves us with better questions than those with which we began.

We invite you to explore our publishing imprints, discover the books taking shape within them, and join us in the continuing conversation.

There is always room for another good book.
