Our Imprints

Distinctive Voices. A Common Commitment.

Lozano Books brings together a family of publishing imprints, each with its own editorial character, intellectual interests, and literary traditions. From the theological inheritance of Eastern Christianity to the philosophical questions of antiquity and modernity, from the drama of history to the pleasures of fiction and the stage, our imprints explore the many ways in which the written word illuminates human experience.

Each imprint has its own identity, but all share a common conviction: that books should be carefully considered, thoughtfully written, handsomely presented, and worth keeping.

Theophoros Press

Orthodox Christianity • Theology • Spiritual Life

Named for Saint Ignatius the God-Bearer, Theophoros Press publishes works devoted to the faith, worship, history, and spiritual inheritance of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Its books seek to make the riches of Orthodox Christianity accessible without diminishing their depth, inviting readers to encounter a living tradition shaped by Scripture, the Church Fathers, the saints, and the liturgical life of the Church.

From introductions for those discovering Orthodoxy to studies intended for clergy, scholars, and lifelong members of the Church, Theophoros Press is committed to writing that is faithful, thoughtful, and genuinely useful.

BarrelLamp Press

Philosophy · Ethics · The Life of the Mind

Taking its inspiration from Diogenes of Sinope, the philosopher who made his home in a great earthenware vessel and famously carried a lamp in search of an honest man, BarrelLamp Press is devoted to the examined life and the pleasures of thinking carefully.

Its publications explore philosophy, ethics, logic, intellectual history, and the enduring questions of truth, knowledge, justice, and human flourishing. Some books introduce readers to the great philosophical conversations; others enter those conversations with arguments and questions of their own.

BarrelLamp Press begins with a simple conviction: philosophy belongs not merely in the classroom, but wherever thoughtful people are willing to ask difficult questions, examine familiar assumptions, and follow an argument wherever it leads.

Marengo-Traveller Press

History · Biography · Civilization · General Nonfiction

Named for two horses that carried their riders through some of history's most consequential conflicts, Marengo-Traveller Press publishes books devoted to understanding the human past and the complicated inheritance it has left us.

Its interests range across political and military history, biography, archaeology, cultural history, historical inquiry, and the rise and transformation of civilizations. We are particularly drawn to books that connect individual lives and historical events to the larger questions of institutions, ideas, power, and human character.

Marengo-Traveller Press approaches history neither as a collection of comfortable legends nor as an inexhaustible catalogue of grievances, but as a continuing conversation with the people and societies that preceded us. The past deserves to be examined carefully, questioned intelligently, and understood on its own terms before we presume to pass judgment upon it.

Volpone-Mosca Press

Drama · Theatre · Musical Theatre · Performance

Named for the cunning fox and his equally resourceful accomplice in Ben Jonson's Volpone, Volpone-Mosca Press celebrates the dramatic arts in all their splendid variety, from the tragedies and comedies of the classical stage to contemporary plays, musical theatre, and works intended for performance.

Its publications include original plays, adaptations, libretti, dramatic literature, and studies of theatre and performance. We are especially interested in works that appreciate the peculiar magic of the stage, where language becomes action, characters acquire lives of their own, and an audience discovers that the human condition is often best understood when someone else is pretending to be somebody else.

Volpone-Mosca Press holds that drama deserves to be read as well as performed, and that a good play can remain a lively companion long after the curtain has fallen.

Walsingham-Marlowe Press

Fiction · Historical Fiction · Mystery · Literary Imagination

Taking its name from two remarkable figures of Elizabethan England, the statesman and intelligence master Sir Francis Walsingham and the playwright Christopher Marlowe, Walsingham-Marlowe Press is devoted to the art of storytelling and the imaginative possibilities of fiction.

Its publications encompass literary and historical fiction, mysteries, tales of intrigue, speculative narratives, and stories that resist convenient classification. We are drawn to fiction that creates convincing worlds, memorable characters, and circumstances in which the familiar becomes strange, the extraordinary becomes plausible, and human nature reveals itself in unexpected ways.

Walsingham-Marlowe Press believes that a good story does more than entertain. It enlarges our experience, introduces us to lives we could never otherwise have lived, and occasionally tells us something about ourselves that we might have preferred not to discover.
